Animals lost & found
Your pet has gone missing, what do you do? in what order and who should you contact?
It seems like an easy thing to do but when your upset filled with worry sometimes knowing what to do and how to go about it isn’t that easy the worry takes over and panic sets in so here’s an approach you can take.
If your cat has gone missing put their litter tray in the garden without cleaning it out so they can pick up the scent of them, put an item of clothing outside also so they can also smell their owner.
If it’s a dog try to get someone your dog knows to stay in the place they went missing from with an item of your clothing they often recall back to where you were then go looking for you in panic, this is not always the case but very often they will track with their nose to go back to where you were.
Call vets and local rescues and your local council dog warden (if a dog) as they often are where found pets are taken.
Contact your microchip company and report your pet missing check your chip details are up to date as this will delay or even stop you from finding your pet. Check the found pets on the site also as people do report pets as found on microchip sites.
Put pictures of your pet and information on how to contact you on social media in local groups to your area try to have someone that can check the reports or updates for you while you are searching and calling around trying to do it all alone is very overwhelming.
Contact missing animal groups such as Muddy Paws Crime muddypawscrime@gmail.com and fill out reports of your missing pet there are websites to do this such as Animal Search U.K www.animalsearchuk.co.uk
and you can contact missing pet groups on social media such as Facebook and twitter etc depending on which you use if you do not use social media see if you can find someone that does to do this for you.
Print out posters with your pet’s clear picture on it post in the local area with a good description onto lampposts, shop windows also post through doors around your location.
